2024 Lineup
& SCHEDULE

  • Sun and Moon Dance has a few different avenues of sound that it explores but it is mainly focused around Scandinavian folk music both contemporary and traditional. Scandinavian folk music has been a passion of mine for many years. I enjoy teaching people about the instruments as much as I love playing them. One can expect to hear instruments native to Norway, Sweden and Denmark such as Nyckelharpa, Munnharpe, Tagelharpa, Kraviklyra, Bukkehorn and Langeleik.

  • In the tradition of educational re-enactors, Fjellborg Vikings presents a Viking tent encampment with demonstrations of various skills including textile arts, blacksmith, and carpenter work. Throughout the event our warriers will be giving demonstrations of live combat using swords, axes, spears, and shields.

When you visit them, you will have a truly hands-on experience by studying museum quality reproductions of Viking chests, tools, carvings, weapons, and armor. Viking age re-enactors will provide insights of the home life, merchant trade routes, and conquests of the greatest expansion of European culture, unequaled until the time of Columbus.

Fjellborg Vikings campsite and warrior competitions provide great family fun and an educational experience of historical Scandinavian culture of the classic Viking age.

  • Jameson Foster is a Nordic Studies and Musicology scholar invested in the music and politics of the Nordic countries and global images of “Nordicness”.

  • The Khan Kurra project began in 2012 as a musical ritual using electronic and acoustic sources, voice, ‘found sounds’ and modern technology. The result is a sound haunted by ancestral memories; dreams of a mythic past that may have never been.

  • The M & M Dancers are a group of elementary school age singers and dancers, founded and directed by Marcia Green, who have been a part of the music program at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loveland, Colorado for almost twenty years. They lead audience participation in easy folk dances around the maypole, and are especially popular with families and young children.

  • Violinist and fiddler Nicolette Andres has created a career with breadth in teaching, performing—internationally, and she continues her own education with expert teachers all over the country and world.

Nicolette began studying the Hardanger fiddle (Hardingfele in Norwegian) with Rachel Nesvig in December 2020. Through a loan program from the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America, Nicolette was accepted to study and loan an instrument. Nicolette is passionate about oral traditions of music, and let that guide her to plan her first trip to Norway in May 2022 to visit the Ole Bull Academy. Nicolette now regularly performs Norwegian folk music for dance and listening in Boulder, Colorado on her own instrument, and continues to study the tradition.

  • Nordic Daughter is a Rocky Mountain Folk Alternative band based in Idaho Springs, CO. They are more than a musical project, they are advocates for community connection, honesty, education, natural wisdom, and harmony. Their main focus is to tour the world teaching children and adults how to find their voice through music and art. Their fully choreographed performance is sure to capture hearts and minds. The band has performed with Lita Ford, Trapt, Cold, Stitched Up Heart, and Jack Russell's Great White. Get ready for the fiercest of all warriors, NORDIC DAUGHTER!

  • Sarah Jylkka is a Detroit native living in Denver, Colorado. Sarah earned her Bachelor's in Music Education from DePauw University in Indiana and currently holds a her professional teacher's license in the state of Colorado. Sarah plays both violin and viola professionally and currently teaches after-school orchestra at El Sistema Colorado in Denver, CO.

Sarah enjoys playing fiddle, performing with her fellow string musicians, hiking, improv comedy, and petting other people's dogs at Cheesman Park.

  • The Scandinavian Folk Dancers of Phoenix is a group made up of metro-Phoenix-area residents who enjoy and perform Scandinavian Folk Dance.

  • The Swedish Folk Dance Club of Colorado is an organization dedicated to preserving the historical, traditional folk dances of Sweden.

  • Norse Mythology 101!

Taylor Budde is a Ph.D. candidate in UC-Boulder's German Program. His Master’s thesis titled Of Monsters and Märchenexplored the relationship between fairy tales and the monsters in Ludwig Tieck’s Der blonde Eckbert, Hans Christen Andersen’s Den lille Havfrue, and the brother Grimms’ Hänsel und Gretel. Taylor has also taught in the Nordic department for the Vikings and Norse Mythology courses and was Lead TA in the 2017-18 academic year.
